Anja: the Sixth chakra
In Sanskrit, the sixth chakra is known as Anja. This means “beyond wisdom” or the “perception center”, but perhaps you know it better as the “third eye”. Most people know that this chakra is located in between the eyebrows. This is also the reason why this chakra is called the brow chakra.
The brow chakra has 96 petals which swirl and turn into a vortex, symbolizing the opening of the third eye. When you illustrate this chakra, it is unlike the first five chakras because it does not have a circle that confines it. This represents your ability to break free from the “circle” that encapsulates you and prevents you from transcending.
This chakra vibrates with the key of A. Chanting the mantra “aum”, “om”, or “mmm” in this key helps open it. It also vibrates with the color indigo, which symbolizes spirituality. This chakra is unique because it is not represented by a worldly element. Instead, it is governed by your spiritual vision and your inner sound.
Having a clear sixth chakra gives you the ability to see beyond what your eyes can perceive. It controls your ability to dream and to manifest those dreams into reality. There are three types of dreams: unconscious, conscious, and superconscious.
Unconscious dreams are manifestations of the memories that you have suppressed or repressed. There are times however when your ability to cope can no longer contain these memories. Once they escape, they manifest as nightmares. This chakra acts on these dreams by bringing them out and helping you release them. Once you do, your process of healing will begin.
Conscious dreams are the manifestations of the things you desire or already have. For example, if a husband fights with his wife, he may dream that he and his wife has found a solution to the problem, only to wake up and find that they still haven’t made up. This chakra brings up these dreams to help you deal with your everyday life.
The superconscious dreams on the other hand, are dreams of the memories that you are yet to achieve. These are the dreams that you don’t immediately remember, yet they give you feelings of déjà vu. This chakra acts on these dreams by helping you remember them so that you can integrate them into how you live your life.
Besides your dreams, this chakra also amplifies your sense of “sight”. Opening this chakra gives you the ability to access your gifts of telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, precognition, and the like. These are gifts that can be accessed only by those who are truly enlightened.
If your chakra is blocked, you can also experience mental problems such as hallucinations, memory loss, and difficulty in concentrating.
Exercises for this chakra often focus on the mind. To open and strengthen it, you can try guided imagery and lucid dreaming. In yoga, forward bends and eye visualization are employed to support this chakra. Nourishments for this chakra are dark colored fruits, such as berries and grapes, and drinks derived from them such as wine and grape juice.
This chakra is the symbol of your enlightenment. Having an open sixth chakra doesn’t always mean that you can see what others cannot. It can also mean that you have a new perception of the things surrounding you. It helps you see the situation in a different light, and helps you understand the other side of the story. This chakra is important in your life because it’s the first step in achieving the new you.
