Anahata, the fourth chakra is known as the heart chakra. By its name alone, you can tell that this chakra can be found in the heart. This chakra is the center for love.
This chakra has 12 petals which are reduced to the number 3 in numerology. This means that this chakra struggles to find a balance between Love, Power, and Wisdom. These elements must constantly be in a state of equilibrium because they can easily dominate each other.
This chakra vibrates with the note “F#”. Chanting the mantra “yam” or “a” in this key opens and clears this chakra. This chakra also vibrates with the color green, which is the symbol for life, growth, and healing.
Air is the element that governs this chakra. This can literally mean the air that enters our body. The heart is the organ the pumps blood to the different parts of your body. However, the blood it pumps will not be significant to your growth unless it contains oxygen. Oxygen is supplied to your blood by your lungs. Hence the heart and the lungs have to work together in order to nourish your body.
In a deeper sense, this chakra has the ability to balance your masculine and feminine energy. Picture those two energies as yin and yang. They are two completely opposite entities, yet they fit perfectly together. This chakra does the same with your masculine and feminine energies. Instead of pitting them against each other, this chakra unifies them, thus helping to create your identity.
As mentioned above, this chakra struggles to find a balance between love, power, and wisdom. Think of it this way. If love exists without power and wisdom, then it can easily be swayed into making irrational decisions. If power exists without love and wisdom, then it becomes dominating and overly aggressive. And if wisdom exists without love and power, it becomes weak and cruel. Hence a clear chakra is necessary to maintain this balance.
A clear fourth chakra is also necessary for you to be able to experience love and compassion. It helps us maintain the integrity of the relationships that we have with the people around us. In terms of your physical body, it gives you a healthy heart and strong immune system.
A blocked one means you have the inability to empathize with others. You’ll have a difficult time in establishing relationships or in keeping them. Often, you will also feel intense feelings of sadness, hatred, envy, and despair. In physical aspects, you will experience cardiovascular and respiratory problems. It also weakens your immune system.
To keep this chakra clear, you can perform pushups or go swimming. In yoga, backward bends are the perfect position to strengthen this chakra. You can also nourish this chakra by eating green leafy vegetables and air vegetables, and drinking green tea.
The heart is located in the center of your body for a reason. It fuels your entire body so that you can go on with your activities of daily living. That’s why the fourth chakra is also important to keep clear. It too is located in the center of your body because it fuels your very existence. Love is a very powerful emotion and without it, there will only be nothingness.
