What is Shamanism?

I remember watching the movie “Dancing with Wolves” and saying to myself, what the Hell is so good about this movie? I asked my middle school teacher who then looked at me and balked. “It’s the most accurate reflection of the Native American people.” It was? Confused, I shook my head. Me, being part Taino Indian begged to differ, but I knew that it wasn’t a good idea to get into an arguing match with my teacher. Besides, he was in charge of my grade.

I continued to hear critics rave about the movie. And I have to admit the film worked to debunk some pretty bad stereotypes. The Natives weren’t mindless savages, who were primitive, with no substantial culture or religion. There were some scenes in the movie that reflected those principles. But there was still so much more that wasn’t captured in the film. I want to use the word shamanism.

I know, the word shamanism is in the forbidden topic category along with voodoo, racism, and the infamous N word. However, many of the earth’s greatest secrets are cloaked in the practices of the Natives. Whether they are the indigenous people in the Americas, Africa, or Asia. Shamanism is more than just a bunch of spirit seekers who get high off of hallucinogens and dance around fires all day. They are people who truly understand the essence of nature, its energy, and how the cosmos work.

There are some people who are still not convinced that great civilizations existed in the Americas before the European settlement. Let’s compare the two. Shall we? The Natives were able to survive thousands of years without eating processed foods filled with chemicals and preservatives. They didn’t have excessive waste, even their feces worked to fertilize the land. Today, we have huge toxic waste dumps that pollute our rivers and water supplies. There are some who would argue that now we have electricity, computers, and cars.
That would be a good point, but all of these things have taken us away from nature. These things have worked to cause a huge disconnection between man and earth, so much so that man cannot see the harm he is doing to nature. The Natives understood this and worked hard to preserve our precious earth. This is why they were able to survive for thousands of years. At the rate our new civilization is going, I would be surprised if we make it to three hundred. The first thing that we all can do is learn more about Shamanism. So stay tune. We’ll have plenty of information posted on this site.

Trapped in the Matrix

The film, "The Matrix" was a pop culture phenomenon, launching a new era of film making for the 21st century. It had a great storyline, cutting edge special effects and Keanu Reeves looking very sexy in a black muscle shirt. However, a good movie is not just about face value. It's about the soul, yes those good old fashion undercurrents that resonate with our spirits and begs us to question our own reality. Are external forces that limit our potential controlling us? Are we much more powerful than we are taught to believe?

Severny Olen, an instructor at UniverSynergyArts, believes that people are born trapped inside the Matrix. What does this mean in real life? Well, it means that people are programmed from a very young age to follow ideologies, religions, and beliefs. I am not telling you anything that you didn't know. These beliefs instill in us an egregious appetite. We want to fulfill all of our desires and consume, consume, consume until we make ourselves sick. Just think about all the marketing, billboards, and annoying pop-up ads on your computer you have to X out of everyday. Our desires are never fulfilled, and we are always looking to buy another pair of shoes, the newest shiny car, and live in the best neighborhoods.

The program turns us into crack heads, satisfying one desire only to long for another. The result of this, we end up in debt, overweight or just flat out miserable. There is hope. People can unplug themselves from the Matrix." However, they are going to have to make a tough choice. They are going to have to take the blue pill and become conscious. They are going to have to take their life into their own hands and become self-sufficient and to not allow themselves to be manipulated by external forces.

In the movie there were the opposing forces, not just the men in ties and suits, but spiders that crawled throughout the underworld and destroyed everything in site. These same forces exist in real life and take the form of not just your enemies, but you loved ones, friends and families who want you to be part of the programming because it is the path of least resistance. This is called psychological warfare and can be combated with ancient techniques and practices from the school of Astrokarate.
